Snow crackled around solid hooves. Well they would be solid and sturdy if the snow hadn't gotten to them. The sudden change in climate had changed not only the appaloosas physical appearance but his mood as well. It wasn't like he didn't enjoy the snow at all, he just didn't like the shaggy coat, the occasional case of hoof rot, those little things that came with it.

There was one upside to this weather. When ever he blew out his nose it made him look like a dragon. A big, fluffy, dragon. This appeased the mustang, so he made a point of trotting about 'puffing smoke' and holding his head perfectly arched when ever he could get attention. It made him feel powerful, not just a cross-bred war horse covered in a thick layer of stupid fluffy hair!

Sagitta stopped and snorted sending yet another little puff of heat from his flared nostrils. Ears pricked he looked around glaring at the trees waiting for someone to come forth.

Calculating Internal Temperature.. buzzed a mechanical voice inside the tall, elegant equine's head. Internal Temperature Calculated.. Please wait.. Yellow-orange sliced into the chill, frosty air of the winter morning. Caroline breathed in, then out. There was a puff of hot air that clouded in front of her, then spiraled into the sky.

Internal Temperature is low. Internal heating should begin momentarily.. Caroline shivered at the chill air.
Dampness gathered on her coat, which had not grown a winter coat due to her robotic implants. The scientists had done tests on her, intended to fix this problem.
Caroline had not given them enough time to scream, let alone fix any performance issues.

At least she had something they'd put into her in the mean time to keep her warm. They had done surgery on her lungs.
She hated them.

Caroline was jarred from her thoughts as her sensors garbled noises at her angrily and directed her optics towards a appaloosa, her chip calculated inside her brain.
It was a Stallion.

She was bored.
It was time to do a little testing. Caroline thought gleefully, and began down the slope.
When she was closer to the Stallion, she purred sweetly a few words of greeting, just loud enough to be heard over the wind and snow.
"Hello. And who are you?"

Large, expressive blue eyes glanced at the mare, taking in the flame orange hair. Sagitta nodded his head and lifted it up once more to the sky blowing out another puff. He couldn't help but show off, he had to make it clear who was boss.
Clearly it is me. I am a stallion, I'm....bigger and I have better muscles.
Saga nodded at his own thoughts, just a small nod.

"Who am I?"

The words rolled from his tongue so easily. "You are the stranger around these parts, not me. Who are you?"
he looked her up and down, as if inspecting her. Backing up, he pulled himself to his full height. He wanted to look supreme to this odd mare.

"I am Sagitta, named after the arrow that pierces the air and hearts."

Caroline was a good judge of character, at least when she wasn't looking for things to put someone down.
She decided that this Stallion, she would refer to the [REDACTED] as Sagitta for now, to simply.. get on his good side.
He was full of himself. He was obviously attempting to be a leader figure.
Caroline held back a smirk. Time to test.

"I do apologize," she smiled innocently, "And you are correct, I am not from.. around.. here."
Her ears flicked. Audio was transmitted into them.
"I'm Caroline. And surely, you must be this region's leader then, I imagine?" She posed her question curiously, although more of a statement.
She knew this Stallion wasn't.
And she knew who the Region's leader was.

Caroline knew exactly what she was doing.

There was a pause of speech.
Saga held his head high muscles bunched. This was too hilarious.
Region leader, she mistook him for Rex. Hilarious. Truly hilarious!
The stallion gave a rather hearty chuckle, "Wow you are new. No, I am none of the Leaders or betas, or even...part of the Castra."
The last bit he had to grit his teeth, if Dutchess didn't want him in the army then he wouldn't join. For her sake.
He may be a proud stallion, heavily built on his pride, but he needed her approval. He was fine with it, really, he understood.

"Where have you come from Caroline?"
He needed more information on this horse. It was odd. He would get this information someway or another. He couldn't have been the only one to have seen her. He could smell it on her, other horses. It was faint, but it was here. [/i]

"Just from the outside world," Caroline said in a somewhat monotone bored voice,
"It wasn't very interesting, so I came here."

She circled the Stallion, sizing him up. "But surely you deserve this spot? I've heard of how this Region is managed.." She shook her head. "Pathetic management," she listed, "The region leader is too hot-headed for his own good, a nasty brute.." She blinked her glowing eyes at Sagitta. "I now see that it would not be you, for you are obviously better than him.. My apologies that I compared you to that idiot. Very foolish of me.."

She sighed, brushing off her words though as if simply hopeless. "I'm glad it wasn't, I'd have to obviously show respect to the leader if I saw him, but from what I've heard.." Caroline was impressed with her acting so far, she even managed to look disappointed and a little sad. "I've heard so much about this land, I can't say I'm impressed with that leader though.. And alas, I fear there will never be a good leader here, not while he is in charge. I don't think there will be anyone brave enough to challenge him."

She was silent for a few minutes, letting her words sink in. Then contemplatively, added to them. "It's interesting I am on this conversation, you know, I was speaking to some friends I've recently made in the first land I came to, it was much more shadowed than this, they all agreed with me. Some of them even refused to come to here, they didn't want to have to chance meeting this.. leader I've heard of.."

"Where from the outside world?"
Sagitta was deeply interested. He wanted to know more!

He listened with a bored expression on his face. His ears flicking.
Wait what was that about comparing him to who..? Rex? Haha, this horse was hilarious. Though...he was a tad bit better compared to Rex. Maybe? Was he? he should consult Dutchess.

But he already knew what she would say, he'd be better. Of course.

"No need to apologise. Though it might be Rex you apologise too. He's a good leader I suppose. However badly he treats his mares..." Sagitta nodded. There were more horses around? But they didn't want to come here with Rex in charge? This mare had very interesting...facts? He couldn't be sure if she was talking truth or she had a throne made of lies. "Where did you say you came from exactly?...And what makes you think I am better than Rex?"

Caroline shook out her mane, scattering droplets of liquid that had gathered from the steady snowfall.
"I was from a herd, roaming the last free lands in the United states, when I was captured and used as little more than a toy by humans. I was mistreated, and manage to escape one night when the youngest of the humans opened the gate, and forgot to close it back properly. And I remembered stories of the land known as Myst, back when I was in the loving care of my herd. I came here."
Caroline sighed, "I fret my life is not very interesting, not like the many horses that live here. The humans obviously did something to my hair, though. If that means anything.."

"As for you, I am a good observer of people," she said simply. "I believe it began after I was subjected to being part of the humans society, I had to be careful whom I trusted. My instincts tell me you are better than most Stallions, and I trust my instincts. Those who don't often end up dead." She supplied the end of her answer gravely, adding onto it. "I learned that in the first region."

Sagas ears flicked back and forth, keeping a keen ear on the possible activity around them. He wouldn't want anyone to pop up and invade on this conversation. Who knows what trouble he might get into caught thinking about such things with this strange new mare.

"I was with humans once," He said, not really listening, "They were okay but they tried to sit on me. So I put them back on the dirt, where they should be and ran off." He puffed out his chest, almost proud of himself for throwing the humans who had looked after him off his back. They weren't supposed to sit upon horse, what did they think they were, birds? Horses were not branches where they could rest!

Sagitta nodded at the mares last few words in her little speech. It was true, this place was very dangerous.
"Thank you, you seem fairly wise, most horses who have spent time around humans go soft."
He gave a soft snort blowing through his nostrils so they flared, "I've seen it before, lots of horses get killed because of their alliances with humans."

Thinking through what Caroline had told him sparked up another question in his mind, "Did you see anyone getting killed in the Lower forest area?" He perked his ears, knowing someone might have been murdered by the lydes not far below in the trees where he was sent shiver down his spine. That would be an excellent way to prove to Dutchess he was needed in the Castra. Why did she have a say in what he did anyway, after all, hadn't Caroline just told him to trust his instincts?

Caroline breathed out a sigh of hot air, frosting the air in front of her into ice.
It floated away into the gray sky above. "Yes," she mused almost sadly, "I saw a horse back in the first Region I came to, they trusted in humans. They were idiots," she confirmed.
She let a little shudder tremble of fear over her, just for fun, she mused inside her head. It wasn't hard, it was freezing out anyway. She gazed off towards distant hills, covered in snow, black specks of dirt underneath faintly visible as they were slowly getting covered themselves. A spot in the clouds had opened, very small, the blue crispness vivid and sharp against so much gray and white and black, tiny rays of sunlight landing on her back, she could feel the warmth, a soft barely noticeable heat, but it was there.
Caroline decided it was a blessing of good fortune.

"I saw many deaths," her voice distant, as if she was reliving the memories as she spoke.
"There were some horses I saw, traveled with briefly in a attempt to get to this land, several wandered off in the night and the next I heard there were shrieks, I believe they were killed and eaten by Lydes. There was nothing I could do, the others scattered in fear, I never saw any again." She seemingly shook herself out of it, then returned her gaze to Saga.
"If you don't see the killing with your own eyes, you can hear it. The noises are terrible enough."
