Sunlight was dappled over the forest floor, giving the dark life in Region One light. Maple stood in a small pool of light, shadows dancing around her. The mares eyes were closed. But her ears flicked around nervously. She knew it wasn't safe to be alone in the woods. But she wasn't really alone. Chills ran down her spine as whispers of nonsense filled the air around her. She scrunched her eyes closed tighter.

Slowly she opened one eye and looked around. What was that moving in the shadows?
Frightened she shut her eyes again and listened.

Clumsily walking through the trees, Constellarus did not feel comfortable. The stars had long since gone to sleep, and now she was bored out of her mind with nothing to occupy her time with. So, Stella had resorted to making paths in the dark forest.

"Oof!" She squealed, tripping over a mossy log. Stella found herself on the ground, staring at two pairs of hooves. She shook her mane of twigs and dirt, getting up. "Hello!" Constellarus greeted the cremello stranger. "I'm Stella, your name is..?"

Maple opened her eyes at the sound of something coming through the forest. She closed her eyes tighter again. It came closer and closer. Then it spoke.

Maple opened her eyes timidly and looked down, finally smiling.

The mare flicked her ears around then smiled, "Hello, I'm Maple." She stepped back so the younger mare had room to stand. The white mare looked around then back at Constellarus, "It's nice to meet you, are you okay?"
She stood up straight with her long hair blowing gently in the breeze.

_{Thunder watched from a distance, not wanting to startle the two mares. What's the point, why not just rock on up, announce your arrival?
"Hey there ladies" he said with an idiotic smile on his face. "What's your names?" he asked straight out. No point in waiting for them to get over the shock of being disturbed he thought to himself. Last time he tried talking to other horses, it took them like 10 minutes to even notice he was there.}

Maple spun around so fast she almost tripped over her own hooves.
The sound of another horse had startled her. A stallion.

"M-my names Maple." She stammered out. The white mare looked at the stallion through her forelock.
She often stammered when she was nervous, which was usually always.

"Who are you?"

At least I'm no longer alone in this dark world.

As Stella was about to reply to her new friend, Maple, a draft-sized stallion popped up. He introduced himself as Thunder, and rather pompously, Stella thought. In answer to his question, she said, "My name is Constellarus. Why are you so bossy?"

Stella was never known for her subtle attitude; she'd rather get the point across quickly. She stood up taller, but still had to crane her neck to see Thunder's face.

Constellarus didn't seem to be the horse who thought things through before she said them, although nor was Thunder. "So Constellarus and Maple. What are you doing here in the forest? Are those big, scary lydes gonna come a getcha?" he asked, laughing. He liked to stir people up.}

"Wait, what?! There are lydes in these woods?!?" Stella shrieked, her head jerking every which way. "Where!!? Show them to me!" She was now literally jumping up and down in excitement. At Maple and Thunder's strange stares, she stopped. "Umm.. What? What's wrong? I want to meet the lyes.. so what?"

The two hadn't known, but Constellarus had a dangerous fascination with the reptilian horses. She'd been interested in them since she was born.

"Ahhh Stella, you do realize that I was kidding and that if you were to meet the lydes, they would probably kill you" he told her, serious now. He looked at her funny. Seriously, what kind of horse want to meet lydes?
"They smell awful too" he said, chuckling again. "Could tell if they were coming from a mile away"
This probably wasn't true but what does it matter.}

At Thunder's words, Constellarus began to sniff the air eagerly, not unlike a bloodhound. "I can't smell anything!" she pouted. "This is lame. I want to go." Stella then proceeded to walk quickly out of the woods, not even looking behind her to make sure Maple was coming.

He looked at Maple. At least she wasn't wanting the lydes to come. Join the Castra, why would she do that? "Idiot" he whispered to himself.}

Maple had been standing off to the side happily watching, not being one for attention.
"I like the forest," She mumbled, "It's quiet and dark."
She watched as Constellarus walked away, "I should follow..." she said to herself.
She looked at Thunder and trotted off to follow the other mare.

He walked out of the forest and joined the two mares.
"Stella" he said. "Why do you want to see a Lyde so much?"
He liked the dark too but he didn't want to be there if a lyde was going to jump out at him.
"Stella, getting upset isn't going to help alright."}

As soon as Constellarus reached the edge of the woods, she began to trot the treeline, in hopes of finding a whisper of a lyde. She soon heard behind her, the unwelcome voice of Thunder, "It's not going to help, getting upset, you know.."

"I'm not upset!" she snapped. "You don't understand. I just need to find the lydes. It's kind of a dream of mine. So will you help me?"

Stella looked over Thunder's shoulder to see the long haired mare. She nodded her head in a sort of greeting.

Adelina was trotting through the forest, looking for a soul to talk to.
She then heard the familiar voice of her friend Stella. She walked through the trees to see Stella and two other horses.
Adelina threw her petite head around and cantered towards them.

"Stella!!"

Maple was looking at the two horses as if they had lost their minds.
"The last thing I-i, would want to do is find a-a-Lyde." She shook her head and backed off a few paces.
"Those things are dangerous! They could kill a horse!"

"Adelina! Hi! How are you? Sorry that I disappeared yesterday, I wanted to explore the forest," Stella gestured to the shadowy woods. "My.. uh.. 'friends' and I are going lyde hunting; do you want to come? It'll be fun!"

As Maple declined oh so nervously, Stella felt disappointed. Why wouldn't she want to come on an exciting adventure?? What a sour puss. "But whyyyy, Maple? You have to come!" she nagged her cremello friend.

Adelina had a rather strange fascination with the lydes herself.

She looked at the cremello mare, "Come on!" She encouraged, "It will be so fun".

Of course he wasn't going to let her go on her own. She would most likely get killed. "Anyone who wants to join us, feel free" he said loudly, in case there was anyone else hiding in the trees.}

I already see enough of the dead, I don't want to see anymore!
She almost said her thoughts aloud.
"No. It's too dangerous. We could all get killed."

It seems there is only one smart horse here, Maple
"Believe me Maple, when I say I don't want to go, I mean it, but I am not letting them go unprotected. They don't know what they are in for. I do, so they will be a lot safer with me."

To be honest, he wasn't actually very sure of that, but he was a big stallion, he would have a good chance of holding them off, at least for a little bit.}

Stella jumped in excitement. "Yay! It's going to be so much fun, Adelina! I'm so glad that you're coming! You're such a good friend." She purposely emphasized her words to try to take a small dig at Maple for not coming. Although not outwardly saying anything, Constellarus was mad that she wasn't being loyal and did not wish to come.

When the draft, Thunder, mentioned protection and nodded toward her, Constellarus scoffed. "I don't need protection! I'm perfectly fine on my own!" She raised her tail, looking very immature. If he's determined to follow me, I am going to ditch him as fast as I can, Stella planned.

Maple sighed, "Fine I'll go."
She glared at the other horses, "But only because if you do get hurt I may be the only one to help you."
If I don't die that is.
